Who is Alex Grey?
Alex Grey was born on November 29th in 1953. He is an American visionary artist, author, teacher, and Vajrayana practitioner. Alex and his wife Allyson Grey are the co-founders of COSM (The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors), a non-profit church supporting Visionary Culture in Wappingers Falls, New York. Inside the chapel are a series of 21 life-sized paintings called "The Sacred Mirrors" that took 10 years to complete. These visionary artworks examines the physical and metaphysical anatomy in great detail. Extremely detailed renderings of the lymphatic system, skeletal sytem, cardiovascular system, and nervous system are commonly found in his paintings.

Alex Grey paintings can be described as a unique blend of sacred, visionary art and postmodern art. He is best known for his glowing paintings of anatomical human bodies, which kind of resemble an x-ray image that depicts multiple layers of reality. His art is a complex integration of body, mind, and spirit. His figures are shown in positions such as praying, meditating, kissing, copulating, pregnancy, birth and death. His artwork incorporates many religious symbols, including auras, chakras, and icons with geometric shapes and tessellations in natural, industrial, and multicultural situations. Alex applies this multidimensional perspective to paint the universal human experience.
